List of Players Who Agree To Play PSL 2017 Final in Lahore

The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is getting ready to host the Pakistan Super League final with various things being done to ensure the safety and security of the players, officials and the fans.

Online reports suggest that barbed wires are being fixed at the boundary along with the installation of CCTV cameras. The sight-screens have been painted again and teams will have a use of practice pitches close to the main surface on which the game will be played.

The road leading to the stadium have been revamped but more importantly from the fans’ point of view, they will need to remember that all three entrances of Nishtar Park Sports Complex will be closed from this Tuesday. The Gaddafi Stadium and the other grounds are all a part of the Nishtar Park.

A total of 1000 tickets will be priced at Rs.500 for those who cannot afford costlier tickets, and fans are requested to carry their National Identity Card to get inside the stadium without which entry will not be given.

According to latest reports, a total of 56 players have decided they will be happy to travel to the Pakistani city to feature in the final but Chris Gayle, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara are not a part of those. Jayawardene and Sangakkara were a part of the Sri Lankan squad that last toured Pakistan in 2009 before security became an issue for touring sides.

The report also said the PCB have decided to top up the salaries of the overseas players between $10,000 and $50,000 to make it to Lahore to feature in the PSL 2 final. Earlier the franchises had arrived at the decision after the management apprised them of the security situation in the country in the lead-up to the tournament title-decider.

PSL chairman Najam Sethi said: “It has been heartwarming to see the dedication of all the owners to the cause of taking cricket back home. There is a realisation that this final will be the first step in opening the gates to international teams starting to make the journey again. We are all committed to this mission and wish to have a thoroughly entertaining final where it should happen – in Lahore.”

According to a report in ESPNCricinfo.com, the PCB said, it has been decided that the players who were unwilling to travel to the country would be replaced in a new Draft that would be held on 4th March. In case of the distinct possibility that no overseas player decides to travel to Pakistan, the PSL might bring in Pakistan cricketers to feature in the final.

According to PCB’s head of executive committee, Najam Sethi, the draft draw will be made on which teams make the final and which of the players from those teams refuse to travel to the country to feature in the game. He added: “We will probably need about five to ten players for Lahore, and those players who would be available from the discarded three teams who can then get picked through this draft for the final.” Recently, Sethi also confirmed that PSL 3 2018 final will be held in Karachi.

The international players’ association, FICA is yet to give a green signal to the plan though and has said there are still risks involved with playing cricket in Pakistan for overseas players. An independent assessment is still to be completed, however, and that will play a big role in the foreign players deciding for or against featuring in the final.

What do you think of this move by the PCB? Do you think the PSL final in Lahore will take place?
